Gas pump stop turns into $100K lottery win for Prince George’s County man
Hyattsville, MD — A routine stop for gas turned into a $100,000 payout after a Prince George’s County man bought a scratch-off ticket on impulse and revealed a top prize before leaving the store.
The New Carrollton resident said he decided to purchase a ticket while fueling up at a Shell station on Annapolis Road, calling it a last-minute decision.
After selecting a $10 Red 5’s Doubler ticket, he scratched it inside the store and scanned it to confirm the result, which showed a $100,000 win.
He contacted his wife immediately, who urged him to verify the ticket again and send proof. The result was confirmed before the pair later went to claim the prize.

Lottery officials said the winning ticket was sold at the Shell station located at 8309 Annapolis Road in Hyattsville. The retailer will receive a $1,000 bonus for selling the top-prize ticket.
The winner, who works in apartment maintenance, said he plans to use the money to pay bills and may purchase a vehicle for his wife.
The Red 5’s Doubler game, which launched in December, still has multiple top prizes and other winning tickets remaining.
