Puppy adoptions spark push to find homes for other Monmouth SPCA dogs

Eatontown, NJ – The three puppies who recently caught the attention of visitors at the Monmouth County SPCA are no longer waiting behind kennel doors. Charlie, John, and Shawna, the final members of mama Marmalade’s litter, have all been adopted, a result the shelter says reflects steady interest in young dogs and the power of community attention.

With those adoptions complete, the SPCA is shifting the focus to the many other dogs still in its care, urging residents to look beyond puppies and consider animals of all ages. Shelter officials say every successful adoption creates room for another rescue, a cycle that depends on continued public support and awareness.

The Monmouth County SPCA currently houses a mix of dogs, including adult and senior animals, many of whom are already spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and behaviorally assessed. Staff note that adult dogs are often overlooked despite being calmer, trained, and well-suited for families, apartments, and first-time owners.

The shelter remains open Wednesday through Friday from noon to 7 p.m. and weekends from noon to 5 p.m., offering in-person visits for prospective adopters. Information about available dogs and the adoption process is also posted online, where profiles are updated as animals arrive and leave for new homes.

While the puppies’ departure marked a milestone, the SPCA says the work continues daily, with kennels still filled by dogs waiting for the same outcome. The organization is asking the public to take another look, meet the dogs still inside, and help write the next adoption story.

“We’re open Wednesday through Friday from 12-7pm and all weekend from 12-5pm,” MCSPCA said.
