Queens shopper snags $50K Powerball win at busy Elmhurst newsstand
ELMHURST, NY – A lucky Powerball player walked away with a $50,000 third-place prize after purchasing a winning ticket at a well-trafficked newsstand along Queens Boulevard, New York Lottery officials confirmed on Monday.
The ticket was sold at Headline News, located at 88-01 Queens Blvd, and matched four white balls and the red Powerball in the Saturday night drawing. While not the jackpot, the third-prize win still delivered a major windfall for the unnamed player.
The winning numbers were drawn during the regular Powerball broadcast held at 10:59 p.m. The Powerball game selects five white balls from a pool of 69 and one red Powerball from a separate pool of 26.
The New York Lottery said it remains the most profitable in North America, with billions returned annually to fund public education across the state.
The identity of the prizewinner has not been released.
