Radio report inspires $20K Mega Millions win for Streetsboro man
STREETSBORO, OH — A Streetsboro man is $20,000 richer after a spontaneous decision to buy a Mega Millions® ticket following a radio broadcast about the growing jackpot — a decision that quickly turned into a spring vacation plan.
While driving, the man heard a news segment about the Mega Millions prize pool and decided to stop at Sammy’s Food Mart, located at 9418 State Route 43, to purchase a $20 wager. The next day, he checked the ticket and was stunned to see that he had won. It wasn’t until he scanned the ticket and saw the official claim slip that he believed the win was real.
After standard state and federal tax withholdings totaling 27.125%, the man will receive $14,575 in winnings.
Mega Millions is a multi-state lottery game with drawings held every Tuesday and Friday at 11:00 p.m. Each wager in Ohio costs $5 and includes an automatic Multiplier, which increases the potential prize amount. The game continues to draw heavy participation, especially when the jackpot reaches headline-grabbing levels.
The Ohio Lottery has contributed more than $34 billion to education since its inception in 1974.
