Rain returns to New Jersey this weekend after mild start

TRENTON, NJ – After a stretch of calm and seasonably mild weather, New Jersey is set for a wet weekend as multiple rounds of rain move through the state beginning Friday night and continuing into Sunday.

Forecasters say Thursday will stay pleasant, with mostly sunny skies and a high near 49 degrees. Winds will be light out of the northwest before becoming calm overnight, when temperatures dip to around 32.

Friday will start dry but cloudier, with a high near 55 and a slight chance of afternoon rain. Showers become more likely after dark, with widespread rain expected by late evening. Lows will hover near 47 as up to a tenth of an inch of rain falls overnight.

The main soaking arrives Saturday, when steady rain is likely throughout the day and into the night. Daytime highs will reach the mid-50s with calm to light east winds. Rain totals could reach up to three-quarters of an inch by early Sunday.

Lingering showers may taper off by midday Sunday, followed by mostly cloudy skies and cooler air with highs near 52.

Skies will gradually clear by Sunday night, when temperatures are expected to drop sharply to the upper 20s.
