Rep. Rob Menendez joined community members in Jersey City to help repaint the Hudson Pride Center’s rainbow crosswalk as preparations continue for this year’s Jersey City Pride celebrations.

The event brought together volunteers and supporters to refresh the colorful crosswalk, which has become a visible symbol of LGBTQ+ pride and inclusion in the city. Menendez shared photos from the effort on social media, highlighting the importance of community support and visibility.

Pride preparations underway in Jersey City

Jersey City hosts one of New Jersey’s largest Pride celebrations, drawing residents and visitors from across the region. Organizers and volunteers often spend weeks preparing public spaces and community landmarks ahead of the annual festivities.

“Proud to celebrate love and community today as we make our streets more vibrant ahead of JC Pride!” Menendez wrote in a post.

The Hudson Pride Center serves LGBTQ+ residents throughout Hudson County and is a focal point for many Pride Month activities in the area.

Congressman highlights Equality Caucus role

Menendez also used the event to reaffirm his support for LGBTQ+ rights and equality initiatives. The congressman is a member of the Congressional Equality Caucus, which advocates for policies affecting LGBTQ+ Americans.

“As a member of the Equality Caucus, I will always fight to uplift our LGBTQ+ friends and neighbors,” he said.

Menendez, who represents New Jersey’s 8th Congressional District, was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2022 and took office in 2023. His district includes parts of Hudson, Essex and Union counties. He is the son of former U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez, who resigned from office following his conviction in a federal corruption case that resulted in an 11-year prison sentence.

Pride Month events continue across New Jersey

The crosswalk project comes as communities across New Jersey host Pride Month events recognizing LGBTQ+ history, advocacy and achievements. Municipalities throughout the state have scheduled parades, festivals and community gatherings throughout June.

Jersey City’s Pride celebrations are expected to attract thousands of attendees and feature a variety of cultural, educational and community-focused events.
