WASHINGTON, D.C. — A 31-year-old man has been arrested in connection with two separate sex offenses that occurred earlier this month in Northwest D.C., police confirmed Thursday.
The suspect, identified as Devonte Antonio Sterling of no fixed address, was taken into custody on Wednesday, April 23, after officers from the Second District recognized him in connection with the incidents.
The first offense occurred on April 2 at approximately 8:26 a.m. in the 500 block of 12th Street, Northwest, where the suspect allegedly engaged in unwanted sexual contact with a victim before fleeing the scene.
The second incident happened on April 12 around 2:00 p.m. in the 1100 block of K Street, Northwest. In this case, the suspect again reportedly engaged in unwanted sexual contact and then fled.
Two separate assaults lead to charges as arrest made
Following the investigation, Sterling was charged with two counts of Misdemeanor Sexual Abuse. Police did not release further details about the victims or the circumstances surrounding the encounters.
The Metropolitan Police Department credited the swift recognition by patrol officers and the work of detectives in bringing the suspect into custody.
