Westmoreland County man wins $76K in epic Game of Thrones lottery trip to Napa Valley

Middletown, PA — A retired high school teacher from Westmoreland County turned a Pennsylvania Lottery second-chance entry into a $76,786 windfall — and the adventure of a lifetime — during a fantasy-filled trip to California’s wine country.

David Fedor, 61, was one of 44 winners in the Pennsylvania Lottery’s Game of Thrones™ Second-Chance Drawing, securing a trip to Napa Valley for a themed getaway. The November experience transported players into the world of Westeros through an immersive “Seven Kingdoms Experience,” culminating in a group competition that handed out a total $1 million prize. Fedor’s team, House Targaryen, emerged victorious, earning him his share of the jackpot.

The multi-state event, involving nine U.S. lotteries, featured 14 teams representing different houses from the popular HBO series. Contestants were treated to royal accommodations, horseback riding, and full-contact jousting tournaments held at a replica medieval castle. Fedor described the venue as an elaborate, castle-like structure that cost more than $350 million to build.

“Jousters, fully armored with jousting sticks, went full force,” Fedor recalled. “We won each match!”

Fedor said he and his wife hadn’t taken a major trip in years. Married for 34 years and retired since 2023, the couple embraced the experience as more than just a prize — calling it a rare escape and a shared adventure. Fedor, who had entered dozens of Second-Chance drawings over the years without a win, said this moment felt both surreal and worth the wait.

The winning ticket and trip weren’t just about the money, Fedor said — though the nearly $77,000 payout certainly didn’t hurt. What meant most was the unforgettable time with his wife, the friends they made, and the unexpected thrill of competing for glory on behalf of a legendary house.

The Pennsylvania Lottery frequently offers Second-Chance Drawings that give players another shot at prizes using eligible, non-winning tickets. In this case, it brought one longtime player straight to the top — not just as a winner, but as a proud member of House Targaryen.
