Man wrestled to ground after flashing loaded gun in Roxbury street fight
Boston, MA – A chaotic street fight in Roxbury ended with a violent struggle and the recovery of a loaded Glock after a 45-year-old man reportedly pulled a firearm during a late-night altercation Saturday, police said.
Officers from District B-2 were called to the area of 25 Fountain Street around 10:20 p.m. following reports of two men fighting — one of whom was said to be armed. While en route, dispatchers relayed a suspect description and direction of flight toward Dabney Street.
Officers spotted the suspect running before blending into a group gathered in front of 80 Dabney Street. As police moved in to make the arrest, the suspect resisted and tried to flee into the building. Members of the group allegedly interfered with officers, pulling them away to prevent the arrest.
During the struggle, the man — later identified as Phillip Anderson of Roxbury — was seen reaching toward a gun hidden in the front pocket of his sweatshirt. Officers managed to subdue him and recover the weapon.
The seized firearm was a Glock 30 S, loaded with eight rounds and featuring an obliterated serial number.
Anderson, who has a lengthy history of firearm offenses, now faces multiple charges, including carrying a loaded firearm without a license for the fourth time, resisting arrest, and firearm possession in connection with prior violent or drug-related crimes.
He is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.
