Roxbury traffic stop tied to prior shooting leads to gun arrest
Boston, MA – A routine evening patrol through Roxbury turned into a firearm arrest when officers stopped a vehicle linked to an earlier shooting and uncovered a gun during a traffic stop at a busy city intersection.
The arrest happened Tuesday, January 27, at about 6:35 p.m. as officers assigned to District B-2 were patrolling the area of Judson Street near Julian Street. Officers spotted a vehicle matching the description from a prior shooting investigation and conducted an inquiry.
Police determined the registered owner did not have an active driver’s license and that the vehicle lacked a valid inspection sticker. Officers activated emergency lights and sirens and initiated a traffic stop at the intersection of Judson Street and Dean Street.
The driver was identified as Luis Sanchez, 35, of Dorchester. Officers confirmed Sanchez did not have a valid driver’s license and ordered him out of the vehicle. He was placed in handcuffs at the scene.
During a motor vehicle inventory search, officers recovered a firearm. District detectives responded and processed the weapon as evidence.
Sanchez was taken into custody and is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court on multiple charges, including carrying a firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without an FID card, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, and operating a vehicle without an inspection sticker.
The investigation remains connected to a previously reported shooting incident, according to police.
