BERKELEY TOWNSHIP, NJ – Longtime resident and Ocean County Commissioner Frank Sadeghi is encouraging Ocean County families to visit Jakes Branch County Park after attending a Veterans Appreciation Day event hosted there last week, calling the park’s nature center “a hidden gem.”

Located on Double Trouble Road, the Jakes Branch County Park Nature Center features environmental exhibits, recreational facilities, and scenic walking areas that Sadeghi said even many longtime residents have yet to experience.

“Bring the family and check out the exhibits as well as the active recreation facilities such as tennis courts, basketball court, and the playgrounds,” Sadeghi said. “This is a hidden gem, and the kids would love it.”

Veterans Appreciation Day draws strong turnout

The county-sponsored event highlighted services available to local veterans and drew participation from several Ocean County departments and agencies, including Health, Veteran Services, Senior Services, Consumer Affairs, and the Prosecutor’s Office.

Sadeghi praised the effort as an example of the county’s commitment to supporting its veteran community and providing direct access to public resources.

Park murals and exhibits reflect local craftsmanship

Visitors to the nature center can view a series of hand-painted murals created by the county’s Parks Department Director, which have become a feature attraction within the facility. Sadeghi noted that the artwork enhances the center’s focus on the Pine Barrens ecosystem and the county’s natural heritage.

With family-friendly recreation options, educational programs, and community events, Jakes Branch County Park continues to serve as a centerpiece of Ocean County’s park system.
