JERSEY CITY, NJ – A community is mourning after learning about the tragic murder of a beloved third grade school teacher in Jersey City.
The man wanted for the murder of 35-year-old Temara King has been arrested by police in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. King, a third-grade school teacher at the Dr. Michael Conti School was shot and killed by her husband.
Lucas Cooper was taken into custody by police in Bethlehem and charged with murder, endangering the welfare of a child, and multiple gun charges.

According to police, on Tuesday, at around 7 am, police responded to a shots fired call inside a 3rd-floor apartment at the Toy Factory Apartments on Bergen Avenue.
“Upon arrival, responding officers located a female victim – later identified as Temara King, 35, of Jersey City – with apparent gunshot wounds,” police reported.
She was taken to Jersey City Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 8:06 a.m.
Police said the incident was sparked by a domestic dispute.
“We mourn the tragic loss of our sister and colleague Temara King, a teacher in Jersey City who was fatally shot yesterday in an apparent domestic violence act,” the NJEA said today. “She was a caring and committed third grade teacher who had been honored for her professional excellence by the New Jersey Coalition for Inclusive Education. Our deepest condolences go out to her family and loved ones, her students and the entire Jersey City Public Schools community.”
