WASHINGTON, DC – A 20-year-old man from Washington, D.C., Darquise Montgomery, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for his role in the fatal shooting of Anthony Lee in 2020. Montgomery, who pleaded guilty to second-degree murder while armed on October 3, is the last of three defendants to be sentenced in this case.

The incident occurred on the night of September 26, 2020, when 25-year-old Lee was walking along Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue. As Lee and a friend crossed Malcolm X Avenue, Montgomery, along with co-defendants Kyrie Wells, 21, and Niko Hall, ambushed Lee. The three men, lined up across the sidewalk, drew their guns and fired, striking Lee once in the back, resulting in his death.

Wells, who also pleaded guilty to second-degree murder while armed, was sentenced earlier on April 13 to 14 years in prison. Hall had also pleaded guilty on October 3.

The sentencing of Montgomery, handed down by the Honorable Rainey Brandt of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia, marks the conclusion of the legal proceedings related to this tragic shooting.
