Secret millionaire snags $2.5 million jackpot from roadside gas station

Secret millionaire walks away with $2.5M Cash 5 jackpot from Haymarket gas station

Haymarket, VA – Someone in Prince William County is $2.5 million richer and no one knows who they are — and that’s exactly how they want it.

An anonymous winner has officially claimed the $2,560,820 jackpot from the October 15 Cash 5 with EZ Match drawing, one of the largest prizes ever awarded in the Virginia Lottery’s history for that game. The winning ticket was purchased at Evergreen Liberty, a gas station and convenience store on James Madison Highway in Haymarket.

The ticket matched all five winning numbers: 4, 9, 11, 15, and 16. The odds of hitting all five numbers in the Cash 5 with EZ Match game are 1 in 1,221,759. Under Virginia law, lottery winners of $1 million or more have the legal right to remain anonymous, and this winner chose to do so.

Cash 5 with EZ Match starts with a minimum jackpot of $200,000 and grows until it’s won. In this case, the prize climbed to over $2.5 million before the winning ticket surfaced.

The Virginia Lottery noted that all of its profits go directly to support K-12 education in the state. Last fiscal year, Prince William County — where the winning ticket was sold — received more than $63.3 million from the Lottery’s contributions. In Fiscal Year 2025, the Lottery raised over $901 million for education across the state, accounting for roughly 10% of Virginia’s total K-12 education funding.

The Evergreen Liberty store that sold the winning ticket is also eligible for a retailer bonus for selling a jackpot winner.
