SELBYVILLE, DE – A 27-year-old Selbyville man is facing a long list of felony drug charges after a chaotic vehicle pursuit that ended with his arrest and the discovery of large quantities of cocaine and Xanax.
Jaquan Johnson was taken into custody on Wednesday evening following a pursuit through Sussex County that began when Delaware State Police attempted to stop his white Ford Transit van.
Detectives with the Sussex County Governor’s Task Force had been investigating Johnson for distributing illegal narcotics from a Bennett Road property when he fled a traffic stop and led officers on a reckless chase through multiple communities.
The chase came to an end after the van struck another vehicle at Lighthouse Road and South Main Street, continued briefly, and finally stopped on Main Street in Frankford. Johnson attempted to flee on foot before being subdued with a Taser.
Pursuit ends with crash and major drug find
Investigators said Johnson tossed a potato chip bag during the chase that was later found to contain more than 60 grams of cocaine, nearly 11 grams of crack cocaine, and over 100 bars of Xanax. A subsequent search of his van turned up additional drug paraphernalia, while a search warrant executed at his Bennett Road residence uncovered tools commonly used in packaging and cutting narcotics, along with ammunition.
Maryland warrant adds to charges
Police later confirmed Johnson was wanted in Maryland for prior offenses and that his van had been involved in an earlier pursuit in Worcester County. The driver of the Chevrolet Equinox struck during Wednesday’s chase was not injured.
