BALTIMORE, MD – A 61-year-old Baltimore man has been arrested in connection with a series of arsons that recently occurred in the city’s Central District, according to the Baltimore Police Department.
Investigators identified Bernard Stepney as the suspect responsible for intentionally setting fires at multiple locations, including mailboxes on the 300 block of West Mulberry Street and 400 block of Cathedral Street, as well as other incidents on the 500 block of West Franklin Street, East Baltimore Street, and East Fayette Street.
Detectives gathered physical evidence and reviewed surveillance footage linking Stepney to the incidents. An arrest warrant was issued, and on December 3 at approximately 8:30 p.m., a Central District patrol officer located and arrested Stepney without incident.
Stepney has been charged with second-degree arson, first-degree malicious burning, and other fire-related offenses. His arrest was made possible through a multi-agency collaboration involving Central District officers, the Baltimore City and County Hazardous Device Team, Howard County Fire Marshals K-9, ATF, BCIC, and the Baltimore City Fire Investigation Bureau.
