SHALER TOWNSHIP, PA – A 16-year-old boy who sparked a large police response in Shaler Township was taken into custody Thursday afternoon after deputies and local officers tracked him to a residence he was known to frequent.

The situation began earlier in the day when Shaler Police received reports of a dispute between the juvenile and his mother, who expressed concerns about a possible weapon. Deputies from the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist in the search.

The operation grew to include the use of a drone and three police dogs, including tracking bloodhound K9 Ranger. As the teen remained at large into the afternoon, Sheriff Kevin Kraus offered further assistance from the office’s fugitive squad, which coordinated with Shaler Police.

Shortly before 4 p.m., detectives conducting surveillance on Soose Road spotted the juvenile arriving at a residence. He was taken into custody without incident.
