Stop to cash $50 ticket turns into $20K jackpot for New Haven woman
NEW HAVEN, OH — What started as a routine stop to cash a winning ticket turned into a $20,000 surprise for one lucky woman from Shelby after she walked out of a New Haven convenience store with far more than she expected.
Adrienne, who was on her way home from work, stopped at the Friendship Food Store #99 at 2700 US Route 224 to cash in a $50 winning ticket. When the retailer couldn’t pay out the prize on the spot, she decided to take a chance on a VIP Millions scratch-off instead — and that decision landed her a $20,000 win.
After mandatory state and federal taxes totaling 27.125%, she will take home $14,575.
Adrienne said she’s had success with VIP Millions in the past, previously winning $1,000, $500, and $100 prizes, but this marks her biggest win to date. She plans to use the money to pay off debt and save for a family trip to Las Vegas in March.
VIP Millions is a $50 scratch-off game with a top prize of $40,000 a year for 25 years. As of October 10, there are 23 top prizes still remaining.
