Shooting Leads to Lockdown of Nearby School in Dayton

DAYTON, OH – A shooting on January 12 near the Greater Dayton Recreation Center and Roosevelt Elementary School prompted a lockdown of the school as a precaution.

Dayton Police Major Brian Johns reported the dispatch of police to W. Third Street and North Orchard Avenue at approximately 12:30 p.m.

The incident resulted in one male casualty from a gunshot wound, with the victim’s identity yet to be disclosed.

The shooting, which took place in the parking lot, led to an immediate search for suspects, with K-9 units involved.

Major Johns assured that the lockdown at the school and rec center was purely precautionary, confirming the safety of all students and staff.
