GAITHERSBURG, Md. – A 23-year-old Silver Spring woman has been charged in connection with a deadly collision that claimed the life of an 85-year-old woman last August, Montgomery County Police announced Friday.

Investigators said Jesica Evelin Argueta turned herself in on Tuesday, January 6, after a warrant was issued charging her with manslaughter by vehicle due to gross negligence and multiple related traffic offenses.

The charges stem from a crash that occurred on August 7, 2025, around 7:44 a.m., at Randolph Road and Sherwood Forest Drive in Silver Spring. Detectives said Argueta was driving a 2025 Toyota GR86 when she collided with a 2011 Toyota 4Runner and a 2025 Buick Envista during morning rush-hour traffic.

According to the Collision Reconstruction Unit, Argueta had been weaving between lanes at speeds reaching 84.5 miles per hour in a 40-mph zone before striking the 4Runner at approximately 66.5 miles per hour.

The passenger in the 4Runner, identified as Josephine Maria Gieske, 85, of Silver Spring, sustained critical injuries and later died on August 22, 2025. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined the cause of death to be subdural hematoma and traumatic brain injury.
