Sisters arrested for attempting to steal nearly $2,500 from Target

Davenport, FL – Two sisters were apprehended after an attempt to steal nearly $2,500 in merchandise from a Target store. Afnane Kamel, 19, and Hala Kamel, 32, face charges of grand theft and conspiracy to commit grand theft, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to a reported retail theft at approximately 9 p.m. on November 4. The sisters were already in custody when law enforcement arrived.

Surveillance footage indicated the sisters entered the store around 7:30 p.m. They filled two shopping carts with items and concealed goods with Target shopping bags.

An employee observed their actions and followed them as they approached the front entrance. Both sisters were stopped and escorted to the loss prevention office, where the total value of stolen merchandise was calculated at $2,487.70, excluding tax.

Upon contact with deputies, the sisters claimed they could pay for the items to avoid legal consequences. After being advised of their Miranda rights, they admitted to the theft, stating the decision to steal was made while inside the store.

Both women were arrested and taken to the Polk County Jail. They posted bond on November 12.

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd remarked on the case, highlighting the vigilant store associate who reported the theft.
