OCEANVILLE, N.J. – The race for New Jersey’s 2nd Congressional District picked up momentum this week as Democratic candidate Tim Alexander secured endorsements from two influential local leaders — Hamilton Township Committeewoman Dr. Thelma Witherspoon and Penns Grove Mayor La’Daena Londo.
Both leaders praised Alexander for his commitment to grassroots representation and refusal to accept corporate PAC money, drawing a sharp contrast with at least one of his Democratic primary opponents. Witherspoon, a longtime community advocate, said her support stems from Alexander’s focus on unity, fairness, and transparency in public service.
“I am endorsing Tim Alexander for Congress because his values and campaign are about building an equitable future where every family can thrive,” Witherspoon said. “Unlike other candidates, Tim has refused corporate PAC money because he understands that public service is about communities, not corporations.”
Londo echoed that sentiment, emphasizing the need for a representative who prioritizes practical solutions over political showmanship. “We work for safe neighborhoods, strong schools, reliable infrastructure and economic opportunity in Penns Grove,” she said. “Tim’s campaign reflects those same priorities — investing in our communities, expanding opportunity, and defending fundamental rights.”
Building local support across South Jersey
Alexander, a former law enforcement officer and civil rights attorney, welcomed the endorsements as a sign of growing local unity behind his campaign. “This isn’t just about winning an election,” he said. “It’s about building a coalition that ensures South Jersey finally gets the representation, the resources, and the respect we deserve in Washington.”
He also noted that nearly all of his campaign funding comes from within the district — a distinction he framed as central to his message of accountability to voters rather than outside interests. “If elected, I will serve the interests of my constituents alone,” he said.
These latest endorsements build on a growing list of support for Alexander, which already includes Atlantic County Democratic Chairman Michael Suleiman, Atlantic City Council President Aaron “Sporty” Randolph, and Councilman Kaleem Shabazz.
