VINELAND, NJ – A 17-year-old has been taken into custody and charged in the fatal stabbing of a 38-year-old woman inside a Vineland residence early Friday morning, according to the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office.

Police responded around 4:00 a.m. to a report of a possible homicide on Union Road, where they found Christina Asselta, 38, suffering from multiple stab wounds. Despite emergency efforts, Asselta was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said the suspect, who knew the victim, was identified and apprehended without incident. The juvenile has been charged with murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

Authorities said the killing appeared to be an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the public. Due to the suspect’s age, no further identifying details are being released at this time.

The investigation remains active as prosecutors continue to examine the circumstances of the case.

A quiet Vineland street is now the center of a homicide probe.
