Student Struck by Vehicle Near School Bus in Gloucester Township

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ – A student was struck by a vehicle while crossing Hickstown Road to their school bus at approximately 06:38 am on Thursday, January 18.

The Gloucester Township Police, along with their Serious Crash Investigation Team and Criminal Investigation Unit, in collaboration with the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office, responded to the scene near Heatherwood Drive. The student sustained serious injuries and was transported to Cooper Hospital.

The investigation revealed that the driver of the vehicle did not stop for the school bus, which had its flashing red warning lights and stop sign activated.

This incident occurred despite several children having already safely crossed the road. The driver continued, striking one student and narrowly missing another.

Subsequently, the driver was charged with Assault by Auto and received several traffic summonses. The charges are pending court proceedings.
