Police release photos of suspect in attempted armed robbery at Silver Spring 7-Eleven

SILVER SPRING, MD – Detectives are searching for a suspect who tried to rob a 7-Eleven on Fenton Street last week after implying he had a gun and confronting the store clerk.

The incident happened on Sunday, September 21, at around 9:05 p.m. when the man entered the 7-Eleven in the 8100 block of Fenton Street and attempted to buy two cigars. According to investigators, the clerk refused the sale because the customer did not have identification.

The suspect then lingered inside the store, waiting until customers had left, before moving behind the counter and reaching into his waistband. The clerk reported seeing the handle of a handgun, and detectives say the suspect implied he was armed while attempting to steal merchandise.

The suspect ultimately left the store without taking anything.

Police describe him as a Black male between 17 and 25 years old, standing between 5-foot-6 and 5-foot-9, weighing 140 to 160 pounds, with a slim build, medium complexion, and facial hair consisting of a mustache and goatee. He was last seen wearing a black beanie, hoodie, t-shirt, jeans, and sneakers.

Detectives have released surveillance images and are asking anyone who recognizes the suspect to contact the Major Crimes Division’s Robbery Section.
