Suspect Arrested in Newport News Shooting

Newport News, VA – A suspect has been arrested in connection with the January 27 homicide on 35th Street, following a ShotSpotter activation.

At 7:49 PM on January 27, Newport News Police responded to the 1100 block of 35th Street, where they found Jave Irvin Edwards, 38, with gunshot wounds. Edwards later died in the hospital from his injuries. Paul Joseph Mulleano, also from Newport News, was identified as the suspect and was arrested in Hampton on February 10. He faces charges of second-degree murder and firearms offenses.

Newport News Police Chief Steve Drew expressed gratitude towards detectives, the community, and the Hampton Police Division for their role in apprehending the suspect, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in improving neighborhood safety.
