Suspect Arrested in Southeast D.C. Shooting

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Metropolitan Police Department has arrested 21-year-old Demarco Hayes in connection with a shooting that occurred in Southeast D.C. last month.

The incident took place on July 24, 2024, at approximately 6:50 p.m. in the 1800 block of Marion Barry Avenue, Southeast. Officers responding to a report of a traffic crash found an adult male victim inside a vehicle that had collided with a retaining wall. The victim had suffered life-threatening gunshot wounds and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Following an investigation, Hayes, a resident of Southeast D.C., was arrested on August 28, 2024, and charged with Assault with Intent to Kill while Armed.
