Suspect in Benning Road Murder Finally Captured

NORTHEAST, DC – A significant breakthrough has occurred in the investigation of a December 2023 homicide, with the arrest of a suspect linked to the fatal shooting.

On December 2, 2023, at approximately 4:06 p.m., Fifth District officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 1700 block of Benning Road, Northeast. Upon arrival, they found an adult male on the sidewalk suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim, identified as 38-year-old Michael Hansley, later died at a local hospital.

On October 8, 2024, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested 39-year-old Juan Adams of Northwest, DC, pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant. Adams has been charged with Second Degree Murder while Armed.
