Woman wanted for stealing $248 in baby clothes from Gap Factory in Newark

Newark, NJ – Police are asking for the public’s help identifying a woman accused of shoplifting nearly $250 worth of baby clothing from a retail outlet in downtown Newark during a broad daylight theft captured on surveillance footage.

The incident occurred at approximately 4:50 p.m. on Friday, November 7, at the Gap Factory store located in the 100 block of Market Street. According to Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda Sr., the woman was recorded on security cameras removing tags from baby clothing, stuffing the items into a bag, and walking out of the store without paying.

The total value of the stolen merchandise was $248, police said.

The suspect is described as a Black female wearing a black jacket, grey sweatpants, a grey hoodie, and grey and white sneakers. She was also seen carrying a brown pocketbook and had her hair styled in a bushy ponytail.

No injuries were reported, and no vehicle information has been released. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage and seeking tips from the public to help identify the suspect.
