Rain After Dry Spell Causes Road Hazards
**Trenton, NJ -** The New Jersey State Police warn drivers about the dangers posed by sudden rain after prolonged dry periods. During dry weather, oil and debris build up on the roads, which can lead to hazardous conditions once it rains. The first hour of rainfall is notably risky as these substances create slick surfaces.
These conditions result in decreased tire grip, making it difficult for motorists to stop or safely navigate turns. This unexpected hazard often leads to an increase in accidents, affecting drivers regardless of their experience level.
Motorists are encouraged to exercise caution when driving in the rain, particularly during the initial onset of wet weather. A small amount of vigilance can significantly reduce the likelihood of accidents.
The New Jersey State Police emphasize the importance of spreading this information. Sharing these insights with others can help raise awareness and promote safer driving practices during rainy conditions following a drought.
