MINNEAPOLIS, MN – Looters descended upon the Minneapolis Target store and stole televisions, vacuum cleaners, cameras, video games and other essential items to honor the memory of George Floyd, who was killed by police officers. Last night thousands of protesters took to the streets to protest police brutality. Several hundred others diverted and began looting stores and burning down businesses.
After a video surfaced of an officer with his knee firmly on Floyd’s neck, the department announced the immediate termination of four police officers. The protest began peacefully in the streets of the city, but turned ugly after looters began turning their attention to the local businesses.
According to the police department, Wendy’s, Autozone, 7-Sigma building, and a T-Mobile store were burned.
Rioters also burned a new construction project being built to provide affordable housing units to the city.
Liquor stores were among the businesses most targeted by looters.
