Baytown, TX – An 18-year-old has been arrested following the fatal stabbing of a 16-year-old during a confrontation in a high school classroom. Aundre Matthews allegedly stabbed Andrew Meismer over a missing $21 vape pen at Sterling High School on Wednesday at approximately 11:15 a.m.

Prosecutors reported that a teacher witnessed a struggle after Meismer sought permission to leave the classroom. Shortly thereafter, the teacher heard cries for help and found Matthews with his arm around Meismer’s neck.

Despite attempts to remove Matthews’ arm, the teacher observed blood coming from Meismer’s neck. Surveillance footage indicated that both boys entered the classroom together, where Matthews accused Meismer of taking his vape.

A fight ensued, with a witness stating that she saw significant blood following the altercation.

Upon arrest, Matthews claimed he confronted Meismer regarding the vape before searching his pockets and discovering a pair of scissors, which he took from Meismer. Following this, Matthews allegedly stabbed Meismer in the neck during the confrontation.

Matthews’ attorney stated that the defendant has no prior criminal history. However, a former teacher mentioned Matthews had faced in-school suspensions for prior altercations.

Local educators expressed concern about escalating discipline issues at the school. Matthews remains in Harris County Jail, with a bond set at $3 million.

His next court appearance is scheduled for January 7, 2026.
