Teen struck with bat during McDonald’s brawl as Utica police make arrest
Utica, NY — A large group confrontation inside a McDonald’s escalated into a violent parking lot attack that left a 15-year-old boy injured and led to multiple detentions and a criminal charge, according to Utica police.
The incident unfolded around 7:00 p.m. on March 30, 2026, at the McDonald’s located on Mohawk Street, where officers and fire crews responded to reports of an assault.
Upon arrival, first responders found a teenage victim suffering from a large laceration to his forehead. Investigators determined that a large group had entered the restaurant, where an altercation began before spilling outside into the parking lot.
During the confrontation, the 15-year-old was struck in the head with a baseball bat.
Police said several individuals fled the scene in vehicles, prompting a be-on-the-lookout alert for one of the cars. Officers later located the vehicle on the 1600 block of Miller Street and conducted a stop, finding four individuals inside.
All four were detained and transported to the Utica Police Department for questioning.
After reviewing surveillance footage and speaking with witnesses, investigators identified one individual among those detained as the person who struck the victim.
Ramadan Ismail, 20, of Utica, was charged with second-degree assault, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and endangering the welfare of a child.
Police also noted an increase in large group disturbances in the area, including at Proctor Park, and stated that enforcement efforts will be increased to address similar incidents.
The investigation remains ongoing.
