Teen crashes during high-speed chase after tossing gun out window in Albemarle County

Charlottesville, VA — A 19-year-old man is behind bars after a late-night police pursuit ended in a crash and the recovery of a discarded firearm on Sunday, according to the Albemarle County Police Department.

The incident began around 11:22 p.m. when an officer initiated a traffic stop on Seminole Trail near Airport Acres after a vehicle failed to stay in its lane. As the officer approached, a firearm with an extended magazine was seen on the passenger seat — prompting the driver to suddenly flee northbound.

The suspect, identified as Asiyus S. Langhorn of Dillwyn, Virginia, led officers on a chase during which he was seen throwing the firearm out of the passenger-side window. The pursuit ended near Briarwood Drive when Langhorn lost control of the vehicle and crashed.

Langhorn was taken into custody at the scene without further incident. Officers later recovered the firearm tossed from the vehicle during the chase.

He now faces multiple charges, including felony eluding, reckless handling of a firearm, underage DUI, reckless driving, and failure to maintain lane. He is currently being held without bond at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail.
