Teen Shot Multiple Times in Newark

NEWARK, NJ – A shooting incident on the Newark/East Orange border has left a 13-year-old boy injured.

The incident unfolded on Thursday, starting around 10:40 a.m. with a lockdown at Bragaw Avenue School on Leslie Street following the sound of gunshots.

Police, alerted by a ShotSpotter activation, responded to the scene and found shell casings, but initially no victims. At approximately 11 a.m., a separate but related incident was reported at 79 Grand Street.

There, police discovered a 13-year-old boy with gunshot wounds to his chest. He was urgently transported to University Hospital, though his condition remains unconfirmed.

Investigators believe the two incidents are connected and have identified the vehicle the injured boy arrived in. They suspect his involvement in the earlier Leslie Street shooting. No further details have been released as the investigation continues.
