Maryland Lottery player hits big with three identical tickets purchased in Clinton.

TEMPLE HILLS, Md. – A longtime Maryland Lottery player from Temple Hills is paving the way to a new driveway — literally — after winning $150,000 in the Dec. 12 Pick 5 evening drawing.

The lucky winner, who asked to remain anonymous, claimed his prize Monday at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. He said he hasn’t made big plans yet for how to use the windfall but knows one improvement that’s definitely on the list: fixing up his driveway.

The winner, joined by his wife, said the couple has kept the news private. “Only she and I know,” he said, noting they plan to stay quiet about their good fortune.

A self-described regular player for decades, the man has collected several prizes over the years — including a $14,000 win — but said nothing compares to this one. He purchased three $1 Pick 5 tickets with the same straight number combination, 25170, for the Dec. 12 evening drawing. When those numbers were selected, each ticket paid $50,000, for a total of $150,000. “I’ve won a couple of times but nothing this big,” he said.

Winning tickets sold at Shoppers in Clinton

The winning tickets were bought at the Shoppers grocery store located at 6300 Coventry Way in Clinton. The retailer will receive a $500 bonus for each winning ticket sold — a total of $1,500 from the Maryland Lottery.

Lottery officials congratulated the Temple Hills resident for his big win and reminded players that Pick 5 drawings are held twice daily, offering chances to win up to $50,000 on a $1 straight bet.

For the quiet winner, though, the jackpot means something simple: “I’m just happy,” he said. “The driveway comes first.”
