Toddler plunges from 20th floor window in Newark apartment building

NEWARK, NJ – A tragic fall from a high-rise window claimed the life of a two-year-old boy Saturday morning at a Newark apartment complex, authorities said.

Police and emergency crews responded to 455 Elizabeth Avenue just after 7 a.m. following reports that a young child had fallen from a window on the 20th floor.

The boy, whose identity has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II and Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda said the investigation was ongoing as of noon Saturday. Detectives from the prosecutor’s office and local police are reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses to determine the sequence of events leading to the child’s death.
