TOLEDO, OH – A tense early-morning standoff ended when Toledo Police officers shot an armed suspect who pointed a gun at them after a 30-minute negotiation outside a Brookview Apartments complex Tuesday morning.
The man, whose name has not yet been released, was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
The incident began shortly after 7 a.m. when a complainant arrived at the Scott Park District Station requesting a “keep the peace” response to remove an armed individual from his apartment.
According to officials, the complainant also told officers he believed the suspect had a warrant for robbery. When officers arrived at the Brookview Apartments, they saw the man leaving the property and attempted to approach him.
Standoff at Airport Highway
The suspect fled from officers, eventually crashing his vehicle near 3115 Airport Highway, where he remained inside holding a firearm. Negotiators from the Critical Incident Negotiation Team took over communication as officers worked to de-escalate the situation.
Negotiations continued for about 30 minutes before the suspect pointed his gun toward officers. Police then fired their weapons, striking the man.
