An audio recording obtained through a public records request is being swept under the rug after a voice on a Toms River fire dispatch channel made an antisemitic statement before being told the microphone was live.
Questions are being raised about a recording from a Toms River fire dispatch channel that allegedly captured a dispatcher making a racist and antisemitic remark during an open microphone transmission.
According to information made through Opramchine and processed by the Toms River Fire Department, the recording was obtained through an Open Public Records Act (OPRA) request seeking transmissions from the “TR FD RESPONSE” channel between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. on June 17, 2025.

The audio recording allegedly contains a voice stating, “White Power” followed by a comment targeting Jewish people before another individual warns that the microphone is still transmitting.
Shore News Network reported receiving the recording from an anonymous source who obtained the material through the OPRA process. The identity of the speaker has not been independently confirmed.
The recording has since become the subject of allegations circulating within the local emergency services community and allegations of a coverup within the fire district.
Anonymous tip alleges internal handling of incident
An anonymous tip provided to Shore News Network claimed the person heard on the recording was “a high-ranking member of the Pleasant Plains Volunteer Fire Department,” but that claim could not be independently confirmed.
The tip further alleged that the incident was handled internally and resulted in limited disciplinary action. Shore News Network has also not independently verified those claims.
Fire officials are not giving answers either.
The anonymous source also made additional allegations regarding relationships between local emergency service organizations and administrative decisions. Those allegations remain unverified.
Officials did not respond to requests for comment
Shore News Network contacted Toms River Fire District administrator Tim Carson and Pleasant Plains Fire Department First Lieutenant Kevin B. Britton, seeking comment regarding the recording and allegations.
Neither individual responded to requests for comment.
Former Fire Commissioner Brian S. Kubiel responded to the OPRA request with an email acknowledging receipt of the records request and indicating the matter was considered closed.
No official findings announced
As of publication, no public statement has been issued confirming the identity of the individual heard on the recording, nor have officials announced the results of any investigation into the alleged remarks.
It is also unclear whether any disciplinary action was taken or whether any agency formally reviewed the incident. Sources within the department have told Shore News Network that an ongoing power struggle between firefighters, EMS, and Orthodox Jewish members of the EMS squads have boiled over. The department has not yet responded to those claims.
The Toms River Fire Department is an independent agency which operates as its own government entity and is not affiliate with the Toms River Township government, Toms River Police Department, or Toms River Police Department EMS.
