Tow truck driver shot and killed in Northeast Philadelphia ambush

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – A 25-year-old tow truck driver was shot and killed Sunday night in what police described as a targeted attack on a residential block in Northeast Philadelphia. The gunfire erupted around 7:52 p.m. on the 2100 block of Knorr Street, where responding officers found the victim inside a tow truck suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the head and body.

Medics pronounced the man dead at the scene at 8:00 p.m. He was later identified as Aaron Whitfield of the 64XX block of Clearview Street. A second victim, a 21-year-old woman, was also struck by gunfire, suffering a wound to her left leg. She was transported to Jefferson Einstein Philadelphia Hospital, where she remains in stable condition.

Investigators said the shooting appeared to be deliberate, though a motive has not been released. Police have not recovered a weapon, and no arrests have been made. Detectives from the Homicide Unit continue to canvass the area for surveillance footage and witnesses as the investigation remains active.

No additional details have been released as authorities work to determine what led to the deadly attack.
