WASHINGTON, DC – President Donald Trump escalated his feud with former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie on Sunday, threatening to investigate him over the infamous 2013 “Bridgegate” scandal just days after federal agents searched the home and office of another one-time Trump ally turned critic.

The threat came in a social media post after Christie appeared on ABC News, where he accused the president of disregarding the boundary between the White House and criminal investigations. Christie, a former federal prosecutor and two-term Republican governor, pointed to last week’s FBI raids on the Maryland home and Washington office of John Bolton, who served as Trump’s national security adviser during his first term.

Federal authorities are probing whether Bolton improperly handled or disclosed classified information, an inquiry that has stretched on for years. The raids marked a sharp escalation in the case and underscored Trump’s continuing use of law enforcement actions against political opponents.

Trump’s retaliatory message against Christie referenced the “Bridgegate” controversy, when Christie’s aides were accused of orchestrating traffic jams at the George Washington Bridge as political retribution against a local mayor. Christie was never charged in the case.

The latest threats highlight Trump’s ongoing pattern of singling out critics from his own party, often reviving past scandals in an effort to discredit them.
