Two arrested after armed group spotted at Buffalo apartment complex

BUFFALO, NY – Two people were taken into custody Sunday afternoon after reports of several armed individuals roaming the Donovan Drive Apartments prompted a large police response.

Officers arrived shortly after 4 p.m. and saw two males carrying firearms before both fled in opposite directions.

One suspect ran west and was apprehended behind True Bethel Baptist Church, while another fled east and was captured nearby on Donovan Drive.

Weapons recovered from stolen cache

Police said the first suspect was seen discarding a handgun and rifle along train tracks before being detained. Officers recovered a loaded Glock 22 with a drum magazine and a loaded SOTA Arms AR-15 rifle with an extended magazine — both confirmed as stolen. The second suspect, arrested near 166 Donovan Drive, had a Glock 17 with an extended magazine.

Teen and adult charged with multiple felonies

Authorities identified the suspects as Deandre Gates, 19, and a 16-year-old male, both from Buffalo. Each faces multiple counts of criminal possession of a weapon and stolen property. Gates also faces an additional charge of endangering the welfare of a child.

Investigators say other individuals seen in the area may still be at large, and the case remains under active investigation.
