Two arrested in prince george’s county for scamming victims out of cash, gold in tech support schemes

PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, MD — The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Financial Crimes Unit has arrested two suspects accused of participating in separate tech support scams that defrauded victims out of large sums of cash and gold bars by posing as federal agents and tech support personnel.

Parmveer Parmveer, 25, of Grove City, Ohio, and Gyoung Lee, 47, of Flushing, New York, were both taken into custody after being caught arriving at victims’ homes to collect assets under false pretenses.

Scammers posed as federal agents and tech support

In the first case, Parmveer Parmveer allegedly participated in a scam that began with a fake Apple security alert pop-up. Victims were directed to call a number, where scammers impersonating Apple and FTC agents convinced them to withdraw bank funds and invest in Bitcoin and gold. Parmveer was arrested after arriving at the victim’s home to collect the gold, with total losses nearing $700,000.

In a similar case, Gyoung Lee was arrested in Flushing after a separate victim received a fraudulent Microsoft pop-up. Impersonators claiming to be from Microsoft and the U.S. Treasury convinced the victim to withdraw and surrender $40,000 in cash. Lee was caught during a scheduled pickup at the victim’s residence.

Police issue fraud warning to residents

The department urges residents never to hand over money, gold, or valuables to unknown individuals, regardless of claimed affiliations. Officials advise verifying any alleged computer security issues directly through known contact channels or trusted software providers.

Prince George’s County Police continue to investigate similar scams and remind the public to remain vigilant.
