Man accused of breaking into Utica home and threatening officers during chase
UTICA, NY — A burglary investigation on Thursday afternoon turned into a foot chase and struggle inside a convenience store after a man fled from a home on Kemble Street moments before officers arrived, police said.
The incident began around 3 p.m. on the 1400 block of Kemble Street when a resident came home and found damage to their door, a TV removed from the wall, and an interior door closed that was typically left open. As the resident moved farther inside, they saw an unknown man step out of the closed room and run from the apartment.
The resident began recording the man as he ran toward a rear yard of a nearby property. When officers arrived, they spotted the individual and attempted to stop him. Police said the man then fled into a nearby convenience store, continued into the kitchen area, grabbed a wooden object, and threatened officers.
Several officers moved in and, after a brief struggle, took the man into custody. He was identified as 25-year-old Amir Bowman of Utica and was taken to the Utica Police Department for processing.
Bowman is charged with burglary in the second degree, menacing a police officer, criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, resisting arrest, and harassment in the second degree.
