Utica woman charged after knife standoff at Kennedy Plaza apartments

UTICA, NY – A 68-year-old woman has been charged following a tense standoff with police at the Kennedy Plaza apartments last week.

Officers were called to 100 Rutger Street on October 1 after reports of a woman yelling and threatening other tenants in the hallway.

When officers arrived, they heard the woman shouting inside her apartment and repeatedly asked her to come to the door.

According to investigators, when the door opened, Michelle Maramarco of Utica allegedly raised a kitchen knife toward an officer before retreating back inside and locking the door.

Crisis negotiators were brought to the scene, and after a period of communication, Maramarco exited her apartment peacefully and was taken into custody. She was transported to Wynn Hospital for a mental health evaluation.

Following her release on October 6, police charged Maramarco with menacing a police officer and criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree.
