NEW YORK — A disturbing act of animal cruelty is under investigation after a dog was set on fire early Thursday morning in Queens, authorities said.

Police responded to the area of 128th Street and 116th Avenue at approximately 4:45 a.m. after a male individual was seen dragging a motionless dog before pouring an accelerant on the animal and igniting it. The suspect fled on foot, and the condition of the dog has not been released.
The NYPD Animal Cruelty Squad is leading the investigation, and the ASPCA has been notified.
The individual is described as a male with a dark complexion. He was last seen wearing a maroon sweatshirt with the word “POLO” in tan lettering across the chest, gray pants, and a light brown “MCM” backpack.

No arrests have been made.
