According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, the firearm used in the confrontation was later recovered from Cruz’s home. Sheriff Carmine Marceno called the incident “appalling” and emphasized that road rage will not be tolerated in the county.

“The grid is busier than ever,” Marceno said. “Road rage has no place in Lee County.”

Charges and ongoing investigation

Cruz was taken into custody without further incident and booked on three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Deputies have not reported any injuries in the encounter.

The sheriff’s office said the investigation remains active as they review the video evidence and witness statements.

Community reaction

Neighbors in the Lehigh Acres area expressed concern over the growing number of road rage incidents, with some calling for increased patrols in high-traffic residential zones.

Residents say tensions have been rising as more drivers cut through neighborhood streets to avoid congestion, leading to more frequent confrontations between locals.

Road safety push

The sheriff’s office urged drivers to remain calm in traffic disputes and immediately report aggressive behavior rather than engage directly.

Authorities say they will continue targeting aggressive driving and violent conduct on local roadways as part of a broader safety initiative.
