Water main break disrupts South River neighborhood as repairs stretch through day

SOUTH RIVER, NJ – A water main break on Whitehead Avenue near Charles Street forced emergency repairs Monday, leaving some residents without water and others dealing with low pressure or discoloration.

Crews from South River Public Works began work around 9 a.m. and expect to continue through approximately 5 p.m.

The South River Police Department warned residents via social media that temporary service interruptions are possible in the immediate area as the water system undergoes repairs.

Residents advised to flush systems after repairs

Officials said running cold water for several minutes and flushing toilets may help clear up discolored water once repairs are complete. The department cautioned against doing laundry while water remains discolored to avoid staining clothing.
