Andover, NJ – While Rep. Mikie Sherrill has been absent from the local campaign trail in recent days, GOP rival Jack Ciattarelli says he knows where she’s been — California, raising money among national Democratic donors.
Sherrill, whose real name is Rebecca Michelle Sherrill, is seeking to become New Jersey’s next governor, has reportedly spent part of the week on the West Coast meeting with influential Democrats, the same network that backed Vice President Kamala Harris’s presidential run in 2024.
Sherrill’s campaign has seen a recent influx in cash from national level Democrats as the far-left wing of the party rallies behind her on the West Coast.
Ciattarelli seized on her absence Monday night while campaigning in Sussex County, emphasizing his presence with local voters. “Mikie may be in California raising money, but I’m in Sussex County talking to voters about the problems that face New Jersey!” he said.
Ciattarelli attended an event at Perona Farms in Andover, where he voiced support for Commissioner Jill Space. He has framed his campaign around connecting directly with residents, contrasting his approach with Sherrill’s national fundraising push.
The two candidates are expected to sharpen their contrasts in the coming weeks as the gubernatorial race gains momentum.
