Gunfire reported late Thursday leaves shell casings but no victims in city neighborhood

WILMINGTON, DE – A late-night report of gunfire brought Delaware State Police to a Wilmington roadway where investigators found evidence of shots fired but no victims or damage, according to officials.

Troopers responded at approximately 11:40 p.m. Thursday to the 4800 block of Washington Street Extension after receiving a report of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers located multiple spent shell casings scattered in the area. No injuries or property damage were reported at the scene.

Ongoing investigation by Troop 2 detectives

“The Delaware State Police is investigating a shots fired incident that occurred late Thursday night in Wilmington,” the agency stated. “When troopers arrived, they located several spent shell casings in the area. No injuries or property damage were reported.”

The Delaware State Police Troop 2 Criminal Investigations Unit has taken over the case and continues to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident. No suspects or motive have been publicly identified.

Detectives are asking for the public’s help in advancing the investigation. “Detectives ask anyone with information relevant to the case to contact Detective B. Timmons at (302) 365-8434,” the agency said. “Information may also be provided by sending a private Facebook message to the Delaware State Police or contacting Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-847-3333.”

Officials also noted that support services are available for those affected by crime. “If you or someone you know is a victim or witness of a crime or have lost a loved one to a sudden death and need assistance, the Delaware State Police Victim Services Unit / Delaware Victim Center is available to offer you support and resources 24 hours a day through a toll-free hotline at 1-800-VICTIM-1 (1-800-842-8461),” according to the release.
